What changes at scale
Integration stops being a feature and becomes the product. Support has to work without you in the room. Governance that was manageable for a few hundred users has to survive audits, incidents and staff turnover. The architecture you chose for the pilot is now a decision you live with every day.
Scaling is not doing more of the pilot. It is building the thing the pilot only pretended to be.
The teams that make the jump tend to share a habit: they design for the second version while building the first. They keep the system lean, they make integration boring and reliable, and they put governance in early so it never becomes the thing that stops them.
